Our history

Since 1903

1900

This year, founder Johan Jonasson began saw production, as well as the construction of log sleds and åkryssar, a few kilometers from the current location.

1913

This year, the saw was moved to the current location, when the railway was completed in Bäckebron.

1935

The steam engine was replaced by electric motors.

1951

Arvid Andersson and Olle Stridsberg became new owners.

1958

Bernt Svensson was hired as site manager, 18 years old, and the first planning mill was built.

1961

A grading mill was built.

1962

The first forklift was purchased.

1963

An oil-fired timber dryer was erected on top of the saw.

1964

This year, the first timber sorter was installed, as well as the first loading machine.

1974

A new bio-fuel boiler of 1.8 Mw + 2 new Utec chamber dryers. This investment replaced the oil-fired duct dryer.

1978 - 1980

Finished the construction of 2 drying chambers from Utec.

1979

A new planer was built with a Waco planer and band saw.

1981

New grading mill from Smedbolaget in Skövde was installed.

1984

The timber sorting was rebuilt and modernized.

1989

The boiler was replaced with a larger one from 1.8 to 2.4 Mw.

1993

A new saw line was built with a new HewSaw R200. This means that Bäckebrons Sågverk was going from cutting normal timber on a frame saw line to cutting small logs. With this investment, production is simultaneously raised from 20 000 to 30 000 m3.

1997

This year, the planning mill was being rebuilt to further increase capacity.

2001

Grums Industrireparationer AB became the new owner. Bernt Svensson steps down as CEO after 43 years as site manager.

2003

A new TDS timber dryer was built.

2005

A double-chamber dryer purchased by Valutec was built.

2008

20 employees and also a new pellet plant, with a production of 5000 tons/year. The pellet plant ran until 2018, then discontinued.

2011

Production reached to 33 000 m3. This year the decision was made that the saw production should increase to 50 000 m3 until 2018.

2016

On April 16, the grading mill was destroyed in a major fire. A few weeks later, the decision was made that an adjustment plant in Skellefteå should be purchased and reinstalled in Bäckebron. During this time, all timber was taken to Fiskarheden’s Sawmill to be adjusted and packaged.

2017

In February, the grading mill was upgraded with a FinScan camera sorter and a new full trimmer from CGV. Construction was completed at Bäckebron. Additionally, a double chamber dryer was installed later this year. Unfortunately, on December 1, the saw experienced another serious fire, this time at the old saw house. As a result, all the chip- and sawdust handling equipment was destroyed.

2018

Production reached 45 000 m3.

2019

In May, new chip and sawdust handling equipment from Ing.firma Hedlunds was inaugurated, alongside the introduction of the company’s new owners, Profura.

2020

This year, a new sprinkler tank was constructed, and all facilities were fully sprinkled.

2021

The company’s production capacity continued to increase, reaching 80,000 m3 this year. To support this growth, AKJ from Karlstad built a new biofuel plant with an output of 8 MW. This was necessary due to the age of the old plant and the need to dry the ever-increasing production.

2022

This year, the company’s production capacity reached 80,000 m3, and a new duct dryer was built to support ongoing production increases. The Ziegler Group was also introduced as the new owners. Significant investments were made in improving logistics, including groundwork.

2023

41 employees and a new production permit for 180,000 m3. Production capacity reached 100,000 m3. In support of this growth, a new timber intake from IPAB and saw line from HewSaw were established.

2024

Plans for the company included a production goal of 120,000 m3 and an increased degree of utilization of raw materials.
